From June 27th till July 7th 2014, on the territory of an amazing summer camp “Cushmarika” from Criuleni region, in a forest area in the center of Moldova, took place the ninth republican summer camp—eco school CRCT "Gutta-club", aka “The Island of Energy Efficiency” by its SPARE project name. This year, the participants of the eco-school were 55 SPARE members from 15 villages and towns of Moldova, who are also the winners of the republican and international contests “Energy and the Environment 2014” and project activists. Every day at the camp had its own theme (Green Energy Day, Climate Day, Eco-responsibility Day, etc.) and was unrepeatable for its content and events. It traditionally ended with an evening gathering, when the results of the day were announced. The “problem of the day” was discussed and resolved. The eco-school operated on democratic principles and was led by a group of school teachers and the camp’s volunteers, as well as by the leaders among the children. “Climate brain-ring” (led by Oksana Iuzu), the field trip to Old Orhei that included the visit to the Moldovan energy-efficient house, the training on energy efficiency led by the company Gas Natural Fenosa (in particular by Irina Gutsu), seminars on the topics “Climate change—a myth or reality?” (led by Ala Cravet), “What will your choice be?”, and others are some of the highlights from the camp. Practical lessons on the use of the solar stove and kitchen and the experiments “Enviro Battery” were led by children together with the big friend "Gutta-club", and also with the academic Vladimir Ermuratskii, who is a specialist in the field of renewable energy and a SPARE member. The participants showed a high level of ecological knowledge and skills at the interactive team games “Fish business” and “The eco-footprint of the goods”. Another highlight of the eco school was the activity that took place in Raculeshti village called “Sustainable climate starts with simple decisions”, where the students and the professors gathered all the garbage from the streets of the village, talked to the inhabitants, and hung posters calling for energy saving. The mayor of the Raculeshti, Vasilie Frunza, thanked us and expressed hope that one day the school “Raculeshti” would enter SPARE project as well. Another great event was the trip to Chisinau and the participation in the closing of the European week of sustainable energy (EUSEW). The eco festival “SUN DA-I Fest” in the central park included musical performances produced with the help of solar energy. Our children visited exhibitions of successful projects from the field of sustainable energy, including different works made by the student-winners of the contest SPARE “Energy and the Environment”, and also many workshops on the use of the secondary sources. Eco school “The island of energy efficiency” will stay forever in the memory of its participants.
